Design Miami returns for its sixth year
Design Miami returns for its sixth year: The global art fair Design Miami returns for its sixth year this winter, with its most ambitious exhibition to date. This year's fair features a large selection of galleries showcasing some of the most important art from the 20th and 21st centuries and special historic works from well-known private collections. The event - founded in 2005 - has become the place to find limited-edition art work and designs, with established and emerging designers showcasing their more experimental work. And for the first time ever, this year's show will be held next to Art Basel Miami Beach - which takes place at the same time - in a temporary structure designed by New York-based design studio, Moorhead & Moorhead.
"The move to Miami Beach makes this a very exciting year for Design Miami," says Acting Director for Design Miami, Wava Carpenter. "The vibrant, international roster of galleries exhibiting this year is one of the strongest we've ever had."
In addition, the exhibition will include an installation by the Italian fashion house FENDI and a series of talks from leading experts on design, fashion, art and architecture, including a special presentation from W Magazine's Editor-in Chief, Stefano Tonchi. Another highlight is the Designer of the Year Award, which in the past has been given to Zaha Hadid (this year's winner of the RIBA Stirling Prize), Marc Newson, the Campana Brothers, and Maarten Baas. Design Miami takes place December 1-5, Meridian Avenue & 19th Street Miami Beach Convention Centre P-Lot, Miami Beach. For more information see www.designmiamiblog.com
